Description
A series of three lessons designed to teach students about the water cycle, the Boreal Forest Animals and snakes while promoting an understanding of the relationship between Aboriginals and the environment.
Students will:
- create a model of a birch bark canoe
- create paper chain snakes
- listen to Aboriginal legends
- create popsicle stick animal puppets
General Assessment
Strengths
- Use of Aboriginal legends to introduce new topics to students.
- Encouraging empathy and respect for diverse individuals.
- Resource is well laid out and easy to follow.
- All black line masters and additional items necessary to complete activities are provided.
Weaknesses
- Resource does not effectively address the issues relating to the topics presented.
- Students do not take part in authentic action experiences.
- Students do not participate in hands-on discovery learning opportunities.
To enhance this resource the following changes are strongly recommended:
- These resources should be taught as part of a larger unit of study.

- Students should be presented with important issues relating to the topics being addressed.
- A personal affinity with the Earth should be encouraged.
